From Dream to Queen: Edna Park (Miss Nigeria 1964)

A few years ago I questioned the whereabouts of Edna Park, as she appeared to have faded into obscurity after her participation at Miss Universe 1964. She made history as the only Miss Nigeria winner to compete in the pageant, but is best remembered for disrupting proceedings after discovering that she had not been selected as one the the top fifteen contestants that night. According to reports, Park was carried off the stage by security guards, and was sedated before spending the night in hospital. The incident made her a source of ridicule upon her arrival back home, and although she is said to have competed in Miss Lux in which she placed second the following year, she never quite reached the same heights as she had during her reign as Nigeria's most glamorous amdassador.

Soon after handing the crown to her successor, Park moved to the United Kingdom where she became a business woman venturing into beauty and fashion. She also worked in social care, specialising in the elderly, but has since retired. Surprisingly she never mentions the Miss Universe incident in interviews.
